Compare CenterPoint electricity rates

CenterPoint Energy is one of four major utility companies serving Texas. Residents in deregulated areas of Texas can choose their energy provider, but the utility is based on location. While your utility company does not sell energy plans or handle billing, you will shop for electric rates and providers within its service area.

You can use the following section to find CenterPoint Energy electricity rates and filter for what matters most to you. You can also explore today’s best energy prices and plans when you enter your ZIP code on this page. Want to talk to a live agent? Call our energy experts at the phone number on your screen.

Shopping for CenterPoint energy plans

Before shopping for an energy plan in the CenterPoint service area, you should understand your average monthly usage. Providers charge electricity rates based on how much energy you use in a billing period. For example, if you enroll in a plan with a cheap energy rate for 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), you could end up paying a higher rate if you use 2,000 kWh or more. Check several of your past energy bills to estimate your normal usage amount.

Another important tip when shopping for plans is to read and understand a plan’s Electricity Facts Label (EFL) before signing up. The EFL includes details like additional fees, the contract length, rate type, early termination charges, and more.

The Texas Electric Rates marketplace is a free tool to simplify shopping for an energy plan. Here’s an overview of how our marketplace process works.

CenterPoint delivery charges

Your energy bills include a monthly fee from CenterPoint Energy labeled as a Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) or Transmission/Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) charge. CenterPoint Energy charges a TDU fee for maintaining electrical infrastructure, delivering power to your home, and responding to power outages. The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) oversees the deregulated energy market. It regulates and approves all utility delivery rates across the state.

The TDU charge includes a monthly flat rate and a rate per kWh. As of March 2025, CenterPoint Energy’s TDU charge in Texas is $4.39 per month and 4.338 cents per kWh.
